Lots to talk about!

I have lots to say today, so here it goes:

-I found a new OB/GYN! I'm so super excited! His office isn't too far from my house (about 6 miles) and is affiliated w/ Toledo Hospital (also about 6 miles away). Aside from the poor disposition of my old doctor (OD), I was more concerned about hospital affiliation. The OD is affliated w/ Mercy Memorial in Monroe, which is about 15 miles away. It really bothered me when I found out that Mercy doesn't have a NICU. If something happened during delivery or with the baby, then he would be life flighted to Toledo Hospital. Needless to say, I would feel a ton better if I was at a hospital that could deal w/ a high level emergency, if necessary. My first appointment w/ the new doctor is on the 22nd. His office staff were so nice. The woman I talked to about my insurance explained *everything* to me - tailoring the conversation to the insurance plan Jason and I have. Everything from the cost of a natural birth to C-section to ultrasounds to pain meds during delivery, etc. Basically, I will know exactly how much it's going to cost for this baby to be delivered. Thank God for insurance. The only thing that I'm concerned about is his office hours. I hope I don't have to take too much time off from work to get to my appointments. With my OD, I was able to leave work at my "regular" time and get to his office on time. We'll see - at this point, it's a small sacrifice to feel a little more comfortable and happy w/ prenatal care.

-I went in yesterday for my gestational diabetes test. A nurse from my OD's office called today to tell me that I "failed". A normal glucose level is 140 (for a 1-hour test) and mine was 197. Now my OD wants me to go in for a 3-hour test. I'm not going to do it before my new doctor has a chance to review my records. Has anyone else "failed" their test? *sigh* I eat well and have stayed active. I've only gained 14 lbs so far. Is it genetic?

-One of my pet peeves is creeping up again.....Remember when I said that my plan all along was to find out what we are having and NOT tell anyone? Do you remember why? Because I'm afraid that if we tell people we're having a boy or a girl, we'll get EVERYTHING in blue or pink, respectively. Well, bless her heart, my MIL brought over a bag of baby clothes. All of the outfits are super adorable and to die for, but they're all blue. I didn't have the heart to say "don't start this evil trend" because the clothes are really, really cute. So, I just vented to Jason.

-Speaking of Jason, he's coming home tomorrow from China. I hate China. He's been gone for 2 weeks and it sucks. I don't sleep well when I'm alone. I get really paranoid that someone is going to break into the house and kill me. I know, I watch way too many scary movies......I can't wait for tomorrow :)

-Creepy story: I got three calls yesterday from a number that I didn't recognize, so I didn't answer the phone (cell phone). On the third call (at 8:30 pm), I decided to answer it because I thought that maybe it was a friend that had changed their cell phone number and wanted to make sure I got it. HUGE MISTAKE. This guy was on the other end babbling something about the freight company he works for is trying to deliver a package to my sister (he didn't identify her as my sister, but said her name - although mispronounced her first). Then he said that there is a sticker on the package that says if it's lost or undeliverable to call "Dina or Deanna" at *my cell phone number*. Anyone who has known me for a long time knows that I get very leary when it comes to my sister. Why? Because she's used my name for credit, she's opened accounts in my name, used me as a reference on loans she and her hubby have reneged on, etc. Not very trustworthy, to put it mildly. Now since he mispronounced my name, I totally played it off like I had no idea who he was talking about. I said that I didn't order anything and my name wasn't either of the two he mentioned. I apologized for not be able to help. I don't know if he wanted me to give him my address or what, but I started to get edgy when he didn't want me to hang up. I repeated that I didn't order anything and that I wasn't who he's looking for. After I got off the phone, I immediately called my sister. She said she didn't order anything and had no idea why this creep was calling me. I got a copy of my credit report to make sure everything is kosher and it was, thankfully. I tried calling the number that guy called from (at work so he didn't recognize the number) and it rang forever. No voicemail, no secretary, no answering machine. Hmmmmmmm

-Guess what today is?! The first Lions' preseason game!!! YIPPEEE - football season is here! Cheers to spending Sundays on the couch for 6 hours straight! I love football. I'm trying to get on a Fantasy league. The league I was on last year didn't invite me back because I won 2nd place by beating 14 other guys (at least that's what I think). I'm trying to get with the league I was on 2 years ago. The people were super fun, I just didn't like how the commissioner ran the league. We'll see how this year goes.....Game time is at 7:30 pm against the Bengals.

More later.

Hooray for new doctors, cute baby clothes (although monochromatic), and Jason coming home. Boo to being scared at night, dumb glucose tests and creepy phone calls. The next time Jason's out of town you should come down to the Fin for the weekend :)

Woah, creepy story!

Don't worry too much about the blue thing. MILs, moms, and grandmas are usually the worst offenders. :) And when he's spitting up and pooping on everything, you won't care what color it is after awhile. LOL.

Hope your 3 hr test goes good. I didn't fail mine, but sometimes it just happens.

Go Lions!! I can't believe we actually pulled it out at the last minute!! We bought season tickets this year - I am SO excited.

Does last night's win count as 1 of Kitna's 10?

I hear you on being scared at night! You lived with me - you know my weird phobias at night and strangers coming in to kill me while I sleep is one of them.

Yea for the new doctor! I hope everything works out for y'all! :)

yes, I do believe your MIL will be driving you crazy especially now that the other grandkids are so far away.

Yes, I have failed the first glucose test, but did pass the 3 hour test.

that is a weird story. hope nothing more comes of it.
glad you got a new ob. now if I'd just take my own advice and get one myself. she's not that bad I guess...my expectations are too high. I expect her to be like witty and funny and not like a robot.
I've not had blood sugar problems, but I'm sure there are ways to control it.

gestational diabetes is nothing you can control. It just happens to people. I didn't personally have it, but know many who have. doesn't matter how well you eat or how in shape you are, it's just how the pregnancy affects your body. Your blood sugar wasn't outrageously high or anything, so you will probably pass the 3 hour test.

i will buy you some green outfits. how's that? :)

Also very scary story. Sorry about some creep calling you. Hope he doesn't bother you again!!!

I also just found out I have high blood sugar and need to take the 3 hour test. I eat healthy and exercise, so I think like Erika said, it's not something you can control! Congrats again on the little one, you are going to make an awesome mom!

With Ava I was spilling sugar in my urine, so they had me take the 1 hour, and I think I passed it.

With Noah, I failed the 1 hour and had to take the 3 hour test. But warning, the 3 hour made me terribly sick. I was sooo nauseated and nearly vomited the entire 3 hours, but if you vomit you have to do the test again. They take your blood fasting and at 1, 2, and 3 hours. 2 abnormal numbers mean gestational diabetes. I had 1 abnormal number, + a fasting number that was very near the upper limit, so I was treated as having gestational diabetes. Some other doctors I saw wouldn't have considered it GD, but because Noah was 9 lbs 2 weeks early, I beleive that I had it.

I took an educational class, followed a diet, and tested my blood sugar daily with a glucometer. The bonus was, I learned a lot of nutrition education + the diet made me feel so much better than I had been. It really keeps your energy at a maintained level. It helped me a ton.

Not sure how much information you got, but the major concern with GD is macrosomia, which means a big baby. It happens because you have too much sugar in your blood and your baby aborbs it as extra calories and gains more weight than it otherwise would have. So as long as you follow the diet, you keep that concern under control. The only problem Noah had from it was low blood sugar right after birth, but that was before he ate anything. After he ate once, he had all normal numbers and no other reprecussions.

GD happens becuase insulin is a hormone and your hormones are crazy when you're pregnant. It's not somethign controllable. I cried for a week because I was so upset that I had a problem that I thought only unhealthy people got, but that's totally not the case. SO if it turns up you have it, don't beat yourself up over it! That's my advice. Sorry for the novel:)

Oh yeah, I was also going to mention that I didn't mean to scare you with saying the 3 hour test made me sick. I meant to mention that they gave me a room to lay down and sleep in because I got so nauseated, and that really helped. So if you start to feel sick at all, just ask to be able to lay down. It happens to a lot of people, so they should be used to it and prepared for it.
